swim team

Beachgirl had swim evaluations for the swim team yesterday ... and blew me away! I don't like to brag, but for a child who dropped out of swimming lessons because she was wayyyyy too shy to deal with an actual swimming teacher ... the girl ROCKS!!! Well, she rocks at freestyle, anyway, which she taught herself watching swimming meets on television! Backstroke, breaststroke & butterfly need some work ... but come on, she is 8 and has been spending the last 4 years (since dropping out of swim class) perfecting the most amazing freestyle I have ever seen - ok, a little biased, but you didn't see her!!!!

This is the first year for swim team and I was looking forward to the 45 minutes on MWF ... but nooooooo, she has to be the "center" of our family and was bumped up to the next group where she practices 1 hour MTWT. In my mommy heart of hearts this is way too much of a commitment for an 8 year old (especially when you consider what is going to happen to her hair) and I am seriously concerned about her school work ... but now I have something to take away if she starts acting out. Always looking for the positive!

Wish us luck as we fit this into our lives (or fit our lives around swimming!)

4 days of school

beachbaby is in school four 1/2 days a week this year!!! WHAT A TREAT ... and even better, he loves it!!! MWF mornings and TU afternoons are ALL MINE!!! Well, all mine, and the PTO's as I decided 6 years ago that this year would be the year that I serve as President and after this year, I will simply be a classroom volunteer when beachbaby is in K. I am busier than I have ever been with school stuff, but am hoping that things ease up a bit as we get into school.

There are always bathrooms to clean if I get bored!

first week survived

We survived the first week of school - even better than survived ... we loved it!!! The kids are very happy with their teachers ... a rough 1/2 first day for beachboy as all of his friends are in other classes, but glowing after that!

Both kids have new teachers this year, which is a change for us since beachgirl usually has the same teacher that her older brother had the year before. Needless to say, she is thrilled while I am a little stressed about learning 2 new teachers at one time. Her teacher is WONDERFUL, however, so I think we will be absolutely fine!

The littlest one starts his final year of preschool at a new school on Monday ... I will have 4 half-=days completely to myself each week - what a TREAT!!! I am sure most of that time will be used up with PTO stuff, but hey, beggers can't be choosers ... at least that will leave me plenty of time to get my paperwork done!

I LOVE THE START OF SCHOOL ... although I really really miss the kids and summer!
